The term „Empowerment? is frequently heard today all over the world which means give the authority or power to do something or make stronger and more confident, especially in controlling in their life and claiming their rights. Women Empowerment refers to increasing and improving political, social, educational, gender and economic strength and guarding them against all forms of violence. The empowerment of women has become the most major concern in the 21st century. Before Independence, literacy rate for male and female was 24.9% and 7.3% is respectively. But now as per the census of 2011, the literacy rate for the male is 82.14% and for a female is 65.46%. India has shown an increase in its literacy rates since independence. It has been observed that education is a key for human resource development and is essential for the country?s economic growth and also helps in empowering women. The Indian Government owe to initiate the schemes and some of them are Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (Save the daughter, educate the daughter), Support to Training and Employment Programme, and Nai Roshni. Government initiates alone would not be sufficient to achieve these schemes. Society must take initiative to create such a climate in which there is no gender discrimination and women full opportunities of self-decision making and participating in social and political, the economic life of the country with equality. It is concluded that women could be empowered by providing right acquisition of vocational skills and through this poverty and unemployment will reduce among women and invest more resources to identify and design effective, context-specific strategies to promote gender equality.
